Missional Church - What is it?

The following is taken from a article by Stephen A. Hayner that appeared in the "The Presbyterian Outlook" dated 8/20/07 of what a Missional Church is. - "Missional Churches follow a servant Christ into the world with expectation and boldness.  Being sent is the identity of the missional church.  Our mission field begins where we are.  The church is not an institution for others, but Kingdom people with others."  He goes on to say, "In the old way of doing church, what church leaders wanted was for the institution to grow - for more people to do 'church work,' for the budget to be balanced - so that they looked successful.  But in this new way of being church, leadership is helping everyone to turn their faces toward the world and to join Jesus in a lifestyle of witness, reconciliation, compassion, and justice."

Bell Memorial is in the second phase of the "Partnership of the Missional Church" program - the year of Experimentation.  "Our challenge is to build personal, trusting relationships with teenage parents in our community with the intent of offering them a spiritual relationship with Jesus Christ."

If you have any questions about Bell's challenge or how you can help please contact a member of the Steering Committee - Rev. Derek Longbrake, Dave Lower, Peggy Petrak, Louise Carroll, Amanda Duncan or Debbie Freshcorn.

PLEASE PRAY for our new ministry group, the Teen Parent Action Team (TPAT) – Heavenly Father, we thank you and praise you Father for this opportunity to serve you and to bring glory to Your Name through the Teen Parent Action Team. Not knowing what we should pray Father, we ask that the Spirit continue to make His intercessions for us as we search our hearts to know the direction the TPAT should go in accordance with Your will Father. Since Jesus is the Light of the World and Jesus is our Savior, we pray that His Light will shine through us so that those who are lost may see Him and be saved. We desire all praise and glory go to You Father. Just as Jesus always prayed and served according to Your will Father, so we desire to do the same. We trust that You hear our prayers and have all confidence in You to make Your will known to us. We pray these things in Jesus Name, Amen. (based on scripture from Romans 8:26-27, Matthew 5:16, John 5:14-15)
